In a significant development that promises to transform Alexandria’s urban landscape, the City Council has unanimously approved a redevelopment plan by Arlington-based developer, Snell Properties. The ambitious project focuses on the area near the former Landmark Mall, marking a new chapter in the city’s architectural evolution.
The redevelopment plan involves razing an outdated five-story office building from the 1980s, located at 6101 and 6125 Stevenson Ave. The site was purchased in 2021 for $7.1 million. In its place, Snell Properties plans to erect a modern seven-story apartment building. This new structure will span approximately 300,000 square feet and will feature a variety of living spaces, from one-bedroom units to expansive three-bedroom apartments.
Addressing the city’s growing need for vehicle accommodation, the new building will also include underground parking for 340 vehicles.
A standout feature of Snell’s project is its commitment to affordable housing. Out of the 270 planned apartments, 23 will be designated as affordable housing options. This includes 19 units for households earning 60% of the area’s median income and four units for those at 40%. This initiative aligns with the city’s efforts to provide diverse housing opportunities for its residents.
